Cancer care at Lecheng
Solid tumours, blood cancers, and the therapies that have not reached your market yet.
Most international patients who come to the zone for cancer are not looking for a second opinion on surgery. They are looking for something that exists but is out of reach — a radiotherapy that is only installed in a handful of centres, a cell therapy that is approved somewhere but not where they live, or a drug that their insurer will not fund at home.
Our job is narrow. We take your records, get them read by the department that actually treats your tumour type, and come back with a written answer: yes, come; no, don’t; or come after you have had this test.
| Typical stay | 7–21 days, depending on whether treatment is a single session or a cycle |
| Hospitals | 4 |
| Listed therapies | 0 |
| Routing time | 3–7 working days |
This is probably for you if
- A diagnosis confirmed by pathology, with imaging available in English or a language we can translate
- A treatment that is unavailable, unaffordable or waiting-list-blocked in your home country
- You can travel for 7–21 days, and you have someone travelling with you
- You are well enough to fly and to undergo assessment
This is probably not for you if
- You are looking for a guarantee that a therapy will work. No hospital here will give one, and neither will we.
- You are acutely unwell or need emergency care. Go to the nearest hospital first.
- Nothing has been tried yet and you have not seen an oncologist at home. Start there — we are a routing service, not a first diagnosis.
The honest comparison
| At home | Regional hub | Here | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Access to newer therapies | Not registered, or not reimbursed | Registered, often self-pay | Reachable before national registration |
| Time to a specialist opinion | Weeks to months | Days to weeks | Typically 3–7 working days |
| Language on site | Your own language | English widely available | English at the desk, interpreter on the ward |
| Cost for the same procedure | Baseline | Mid to high | Materially lower for self-pay patients |
Comparative rows describe typical patterns, not a quote. Prices and waiting times vary by procedure, insurer and season.
A typical sequence
| Day 1 | Arrival, registration, baseline bloodwork |
| Day 2–3 | Imaging and specialist consultation; additional tests if the picture is unclear |
| Day 4 | Written plan and quotation from the hospital |
| Day 5 onward | Treatment, or a decision not to proceed |
| Final day | Discharge summary, imaging, medication, records in English |
Stays of 7–21 days are normal in this pathway. If your assessment is inconclusive, the sequence stops at day 4 — that is a real possibility and you should budget for it.
Five questions
- Who will actually perform the procedure, and how many have they done this year?
- Is this therapy available at home if I wait? If so, how long is the wait?
- What is the plan if the assessment says I am not a candidate?
- What follow-up is possible once I have flown home, and who owns it?
- Are the drugs and devices being used covered by any insurance I hold?
Ask these of the hospital, not only of us. A hospital that cannot answer the first one clearly is a hospital to walk away from.
Hospitals delivering this pathway
Boao Super Hospital
The zone's shared platform. Most international patients start here because the special-access catalogue and the multidisciplinary teams are concentrated in one building.
West China Lecheng Hospital
Carries a large share of the zone's approved biomedical new-technology projects across oncology, rare disease, autoimmune conditions, ophthalmology and joints.
Shulan (Boao) Hospital
Where the zone's autologous NK-cell and activated T-lymphocyte programmes are delivered, with a strong hepatobiliary surgery base behind them.
Pengbo Boron Neutron Therapy Hospital
Built around a single accelerator-based BNCT system — one of a small number operating worldwide. Treatment planning is done by the hospital's own physics and radiation-oncology team.
If your case fits, the first step takes ten minutes.
Send a short summary. We will come back with a routing answer, not a brochure.
