Cardiac and metabolic care at Lecheng

Structural heart intervention, amyloidosis, and metabolic disease managed by teams that see high volumes.

Two different patients sit under this heading. One needs a procedure — a valve, a rhythm, a revascularisation — and wants it done in weeks rather than quarters. The other has a systemic disease, such as ATTR amyloidosis or complex diabetes, and needs a diagnosis and a drug that is not yet registered at home.

The zone now hosts Hainan’s first wholly foreign-owned hospital, focused on interventional and structural heart work, alongside the metabolic departments of the large platform hospitals.

This is probably for you if

  • Stable but symptomatic structural heart disease with recent echocardiography
  • Suspected or confirmed ATTR amyloidosis where genetic confirmation is pending
  • Type 2 diabetes with complications that need multidisciplinary review
  • You can travel within 4–8 weeks and stay 7–14 days

This is probably not for you if

  • Acute coronary syndrome, decompensated heart failure or uncontrolled arrhythmia — stabilise first
  • You need a transplant; that pathway is not what the zone is set up for
  • You are seeking bariatric surgery as a first-line answer without medical management
We would rather lose the enquiry than waste your flight. If two or more of the "not for you" points apply, tell us anyway — we will say so directly instead of passing you to a hospital that will bill you for the assessment.

Comparative rows describe typical patterns, not a quote. Prices and waiting times vary by procedure, insurer and season.

What the trip looks like

A typical sequence

Day 1Arrival, registration, baseline bloodwork
Day 2–3Imaging and specialist consultation; additional tests if the picture is unclear
Day 4Written plan and quotation from the hospital
Day 5 onwardTreatment, or a decision not to proceed
Final dayDischarge summary, imaging, medication, records in English

Stays of 7–21 days are normal in this pathway. If your assessment is inconclusive, the sequence stops at day 4 — that is a real possibility and you should budget for it.

Questions to ask before you commit

Five questions

  • Which valve or device will be used, and how many has this team implanted?
  • What is the minimum stay before I can fly, and who signs me off?
  • If the drug needs to continue at home, how do I obtain it there?
  • What monitoring is required in the first three months?
  • Are cardiac rehabilitation sessions included in the plan?

Ask these of the hospital, not only of us. A hospital that cannot answer the first one clearly is a hospital to walk away from.

If your case fits, the first step takes ten minutes.
