Histotripsy — focused ultrasound tissue ablation
Tumour tissue broken down by focused ultrasound — no incision, no needle, no radiation.
Histotripsy uses short, high-amplitude ultrasound pulses to create controlled cavitation inside a target volume. The mechanical stress liquefies the tissue within the focal zone, and the body clears the debris over the following weeks.
There is no skin incision and no probe inserted into the tumour. Treatment is delivered under imaging guidance, usually with a short recovery period. The zone hosts the first clinical installation of this platform in China.
What it does not do
- Lesion location, size and proximity to bowel, bile ducts or major vessels determine whether the target can be reached safely.
- It is a local treatment. It does not address disease outside the treated volume.
- Long-term outcome data continue to accumulate; we will tell you what is and is not yet established.
