Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT-M / PGT-A)
Embryo screening before transfer, for couples carrying a known genetic condition.
PGT-M identifies embryos carrying a specific inherited variant before transfer; PGT-A screens for chromosomal number. Both require an IVF cycle, trophectoderm biopsy and vitrification while results are pending.
Success depends heavily on the number of embryos available, which is why age and ovarian reserve dominate the first conversation. Genetic counselling is mandatory and is provided by the centre.
What it does not do
- PGT reduces, and does not eliminate, the risk of an affected pregnancy. Confirmatory prenatal testing is still offered.
- Legal eligibility for assisted reproduction in China is restricted; married couples only, and documentation is required.
- No clinic can promise a pregnancy. We do not relay success rates we cannot source.
These limits are written by us, not by the hospital. If a provider presents this therapy without any of them, treat that as a warning sign.
